Recent Projects

2006 saw a few house fires in Athens. One of them caused by a squirrel with an unusual appetite for electrical wiring. Thankfully nobody was home at the time. However, this also means that the fire was allowed to rage longer than it should have. The house was a total mess. It happened on a Friday evening. Most people had left work for the day, but Paul and our construction manager, Charlie, were still in the office when the call came in. The fire had been put out, but they needed their window openings boarded up. Paul and Charlie gathered a couple of guys together and got to the house as soon as possible. It was a devastating event with a great deal of material loss. However, the homeowners had an excellent insurance company that was there that night with a partial check to get things started and give them money for a hotel. We got everything boarded up and began making plans to put the house back to rights. Monday morning saw our guys tearing out blackened wood and smoke-damaged drywall. We pretty much rebuilt the entire inside of the house. We also installed a new roof on the house and repaired brick work. After everything was newly constructed and painted, they moved back in. That is when they discovered that the HVAC unit had suffered too much smoke damage after all. We needed to replace this as well. They were able to move completely back into their house and are ecstatic to be home again. That is usually all we know of our customer's stories, but they brought us a book of before and after pictures for Christmas. It was at this time that we learned that they were able to replace some of their personal photographs. They had some of their antiques specially cleaned including a baby doll that had to be sent out-of-state. They had some collections that they were able to get cleaned up as well. Most of their home-made quilts were even saved. It really made our holidays a bit brighter to know that they were able to keep so many of their material memories when most victims of fire only have the memories left in their hearts. If you would like to see these pictures, come by our office. The notebook is still sitting proudly on the front desk. People like to bring in their friends to show them the picture of the dead squirrel that was the root of the whole problem. Don't you just love happy endings!

As always, we removed and replaced many shingles on houses all over Limestone County. Last year also saw us venturing into Decatur to install roofs. The company installed around 75 roofs last year. This, of course, does not include the repairs that Paul went and took care of.
